Atlas Pilates founder has been teaching Pilates and training new teachers for over 25 years.
Teresa was tested and certified by Joe Pilates protegeé Romana Kryzanowska in 1994. And she’s been training with and working closely with Lori Coleman-Brown for decades.
She’s studied with many of the world’s most esteemed Pilates teachers, including many of the “Pilates Elders” who were trained by Joe and Clara Pilates.

Taking to heart the simple yet powerful direction from Romana to “move the body,” Teresa – a black diamond skier with a black belt in Kung Fu – has dedicated much of her life to moving with creativity, precision and power through her professional dance performance, her martial arts training, her athletic pursuits and her decades of mindful Pilates practice.
Teresa keeps her clients moving, teaching them to use The Pilates Method effectively to continuously and painlessly improve their fitness of mind and body. Her teaching can be precise and demanding, but always respects the individual and is always aimed at helping them reach their goals.
In 2009 Teresa founded Atlas Pilates, a busy working studio in Seattle frequented by clients from all walks of life. She maintains the supportive environment that allows instructors to find their own voice while remaining true to the Pilates method.
Deeply involved in Atlas Pilates comprehensive teacher training, Teresa Shupe is a regular presenter at Atlas Pilates popular seminars and continuing education events, as well as appearing on Pilatesology and at workshops in the USA and abroad.
Teresa mentors staff and students with regular in-studio training where she presents material, answers questions, and provides counsel on working with challenging clients. She consults with peers and is also available to provide advice on studio operations and management.
