Square Hips

Saturday October 22nd, 2011. 3-5pm

What are Square Hips and why do we want them? We will explore and practice the angular possibilities at the pelvis and hip joints and the muscular patterns that create them. We can expand our repertoire of Pilates exercises, and have more fun, when we understand how to have an aligned pelvis and how to use it. Expect an Anatomy lesson from personal experience.

Sequential Spine

Saturday December 10th, 2011. 3-5pm

What is the shape of our Spine and how does it move? How does the Powerhouse connect to the far ends of our Spine including the front, the back, and the sides? What do we do when one part of the spine need stability while another part needs mobility? We will explore the spinal chain during forward bending, side bending, backward bending and twisting and practice simple exercises to experience them in whole and in combinations.

The Shoulder Girdle

Saturday January 14th, 2012. 3-5pm

Our arms are connected to a ring above our ribcages called the shoulder girdle. What comprises it? Which joints are involved? And what motions are available? How is the shoulder girdle affected by various postures, and how does this affect the use of the arms? Shoulder health requires coordination, stretch and strength do perform the simplest reach for a glass of champagne to weight bearing for pushups and handstands. Shoulders can seem like a mystery. We will clear the air with an experiential anatomy lesson and then get moving!

The Standing Foundation

Saturday February 18, 2012. 3-5pm

We depend upon our feet, ankles, and knees to allow us to move through our lives on a daily basis. We will explore our legs in standing, bending, and balancing, and how we can keep this chain strong, flexible, and aligned.
